(CNN Spanish) — Chile’s Republican Party’s list was imposed this Sunday in new elections for members of the Constitutional Council, responsible for creating a new plan for the Magna Carta for citizens after a failed process in September 2022.

With 99.98% of polling stations counted, the far-right list led by former presidential candidate Jose Antonio Caste secured 22 of the 50 seats with 3,468,115 votes (35.40%), according to Chile’s Electoral Service (Servel). .

Unity for Chile, the governing party, won 17 seats with 2,800,973 votes (28.59%). It was followed by traditional right-wing groups Chile Seguro (21.07%) winning 11 seats; Then there were invalid votes, totaling 2,119,488 votes (16.98%).

“Chile has defeated a failed government, it must be said loud and clear. With these results, Chile’s right wing has reached a total of 33 constituencies of councilors, surpassing the three-fifths mark, so it can easily approve and change regulations.
